The award for best State exhibit, a gold medal, was given to Louisiana. Southern States. Octave Thibodeaux, the Eunice train wrecker who escaped from the parish' jail on the night of December was captured on Thursday of this week by Deputy Sheriff P. D. Williams, of St I-andry parish.

The capture was made in the neighborhood of Sunset on the Alexandria branch of the Southern Pa-'. cific. Sheriff Lyons was notified by wire immediately after the capture and at Mrs. A. McSpadden was in Rayne Tuesday.

New Orleans Daily States. The greater part ot the public schools have closed throughout the parish on account of the exhaustion of the limited school fund. There will be no available appropriations for reopening the terms before next fall. It behooves the parents of children, therefore, to generously support the private schools that will be opened by the public school teachers and thus, while affording their children an opportunity of keeping up their studies will give employment to the teachers who have endeavored faithfully to serve them. By all means give your teachers good private schools and encourage the cause of education.
