Branch And Mier Schools Hosi Softball Tourney Nine elementary schools in Acadia Parish entered teams in the Acadia Parish Elementary School Softball Tournament held in Branch May 15. Joseph Catholic Church Sunday, May 16. Traffic was detoured around the church and people gathered in front of the church for the impressive ceremonies which commenced with the Living Rosary formed by the Junior Catholic Daughters and the First Communicants. The Living Rosary was sponsored by Court Rayne Catholic Daughters of America. Participants in forming the rosary marched in procession from the St. Joseph Parish Hall and in a circle in front of the Church with the Altar Boys forming the Cross.

Following the recitation of the Rosary ard ihe blessing of the children by Msgr. Lerschen, Master David Richard placed the crown on the statue of the Blessed Mother. He was assisted by little Miss Louisette Nugent who carried the crown on an elaborate satin pillow and little Misses Barbara Leonards, Margaret Sweeney, Beth Charlotte Bihm, and Peggy Linda Romero holding the blue satin streamers attached to the crown. They were dressed in white with blue ribbons tied around their waists. After the crowining a motorcade formed and was led by police escort to Our Mother of Mercy Church for the Marian Year prayer and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

Elmo Petit-jean, chairman of the Poppy Drive, funds derived from the sale of poppies Saturday, May 15 amounted to $186. Mrs. Pctitjean stated that she was not sure that all donations were in yet, however. Poppies were sold in front of People's Cafe, Worthmore's, Mer-vine Kahn's, and Town House. Mrs.

Petitjean stated that the poppy sale this year amounted to over $40 more than last year, the sales last year having totaled $145.20.
